Relieve and cure the Wrist tendinitis
The wrist is an area rich in tendons, suitable to inflammation (tendonitis). For many years, tendonitis of the wrist are increasing. Involved, computers (intense use of the computer mouse, excessive texting) and the cadence of some work. De Quervain tendinitis is the most common. Favored by repeated gestures that create microtrauma, it affects mainly painters, secretaries, cashiers or handymen. Simple methods can help relieve and cure tendinitis in the wrist.
Identify Quervain tendinitis
There are various causes for the appearance of a wrist pain. According to its location, the context in which it occurred or the signs that accompany it, you can determine if it is tendinitis.
Presumably, you have de Quervain tendinitis:
- if the pain seat on the side of the wrist, thumb side and radiates to it and the forearm;
- if it moved gradually;
- if it is exacerbated by the thumb extension movement and tilt of the wrist;
- if the pain is present at day and often at night;
- if it is accompanied by a swelling on the side of the wrist, thumb side.
Consult your doctor:
- if the pain occurred after trauma;
- If your wrist is swollen;
- if you have a fever;
- The pain does not break down after a few days of treatment.
Tendinitis settled for a while will be longer to heal. Pay attention to the occurrence of any pain in the wrist. More rapidly you react, the faster will disappear. In all cases, to avoid further irritating the tendon and therefore to fuel the inflammation, turn your wrist to rest.
Stop tendinitis in wrist Quickly
Stop the movement or the current job if you experience pain in the tendon.
Avoid any activity causing tendon pain.
Treatement of de Quervain tendinitis settled
You already suffer for days? As a recent tendinitis, avoid above all that your painful wrist works and the tendon is requested:
- Cease operations causing your tendinitis.
- Do not carry heavy loads.
- Avoid repetitive movements or wrist strength.
- take a rest orthosis (open in pharmacy sale) night, and often as possible during the day.
The rest has an effective action on Quervain tendonitis but it is not immediate. To relieve the pain, you can choose a drug treatment or use more natural practices and gestures.
Medication treatement
- Take painkillers (paracetamol or ibuprofen in free sale in pharmacy), respecting the dose stated on the box.
- Apply 1 or 2 times per day an antiinflammatory ointment .
Natural Treatement
- Use ice: Apply an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas on your wrist for 10 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day; do this until cessation of pain.
- Massage your wrist: massage the painful area for 5 minutes several times per day, proceeding in depth in order to roll the tendon.
Do some stretching once the pain stopped
When pain becomes less intense or even disappears, you can do exercises to help in the reeducation of the tendon. It is necessary to perform these exercises for at least 3 to 4 weeks.
Do thumb stretching
- Place your thumb in the hollow of your palm. Close your fingers over it. Perform a twist of the wrist to stretch the thumb side tendon. Hold the position for 20 seconds, then release. Repeat the process several times.
- Perform these stretching exercises tendon every day.
- Stop them if the pain intensifies or comes back.
Do rehabilitation exercises
- Take a rubber band and pass it around your fingers.
- Spread your thumb as possible to put the elastic tension.
- Hold the position for 20 seconds, then release.
- Repeat the gesture a dozen times in a row.Perform this exercise 2 or 3 times per day.
Furthermore, gradually decrease the wearing of the orthosis if you use one.
When will the pain totally disappeared, and ideally after 4 to 6 weeks of resting your wrist, you can resume very gradually, the activity causing your Quervain tendinitis.
NB: stay tuned of your body; never force a pain!
Prevent the onset of tendonitis of the wrist
If you are prone to wrist tendonitis, adopt some good attitudes to limit their appearance:
- Drink regularly and often during the day because dehydration weakens tendons. Think, in periods of hot weather, increase your water intake.
- Rearrange your desktop: if you spend much time at the computer, adopt an ergonomic mouse, placed as close to the keyboard, in the axis of your forearms; the important thing is that your wrist is not broken.
Advice: do from time to time stretching of thumb, as seen previously.
- Take regular breaks, ideally 3 or 4 minutes every hour.
- Move frequently and change your position does not always reproduce the same gestures.
